Disney's Beauty and the Beast - Opens Thursday, July 24
Presented by the Young People's Workshop

On Friday, July 24, The Young Peoples’ Theatre Workshop will present a full
production of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast on stage at Lakeland for a
two-weekend run, ending on Sunday, August 3. This show is presented by special
arrangement with Music Theatre International, Inc., 421 West 54th Street, New
York, New York. This show is great summer entertainment, and perfect for every
member of the family. The workshop and the production are sponsored by the
Warren County Arts Council, and the music is sponsored by the Halifax County
Tourism Authority.
You will be transported to a lovely French provincial town where the
beautiful Belle lives with her dotty inventor father. When her father doesn’t
return from a trip to the local fair, Belle rushes off to find him, and
discovers that he has been taken prisoner in an old castle by a horrible
beast. She trades her freedom for his, and “the tale as old as time” begins.
Filled with spectacular costumes and unforgettable music, Disney’s Beauty
and The Beast offers a great opportunity for a family outing with great
entertainment! Directed by Wally and Maria Hurst, Disney’s Beauty and The
Beast stars Amber Guttersen, Levi Griffith, and a cast of over 25 talented
young people who have participated in the 5-week Young Peoples’ Theatre
Workshop at Lakeland Theatre Company. Music direction is by Laurel and Anita
Griffith, and the show is choreographed by Amber Guttersen.
Shows begin with Preview Night on Thursday, July 24, and Friday night, July
25 is Opening Night. Shows continue on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, July
26, 27, and August 2 and 3, and on Friday night, August 1. Evening shows (July
24, 25, and August 1) begin at 8:00 PM, and afternoon matinees (July 26, 27,
and August 2 and 3) begin at 2:30 PM. Tickets for all shows are $15.00 for
adults, and $8.00 for children and students. Discounts are available for
members of Lakeland and groups of 15 or more adults.
Dinner is available on Opening Night, Friday, July 25th, prepared and
served by Bill Hand and Wally Hurst. Dinner is $17.00 per person and includes
iced tea, coffee and tips. Reservations are required for dinner and strongly
recommended for all performances.
Driving Miss Daisy - Opens Friday, August 15
The place is the Deep South, the time 1948, just prior to the civil
rights movement. Having recently demolished another car, Daisy
Wertham, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow of seventy-two, is
informed by her son, Boolie, that henceforth she must rely on the
services of a chauffeur. The person he hires for the job is a
thoughtful, unemployed black man, Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately
regards with disdain and who, in turn, is not impressed with his
employer's patronizing tone and, he believes, her latent prejudice.
In a series of absorbing scenes spanning twenty-five years, the two,
despite their mutual differences, grow ever closer to, and more
dependent on, each other. A great show that tells a great story.
Fun Day / Comedy Night- Saturday, August 30
only
The Recipe: Start
with FOOD and GAMES - PARTY TOWN, then
end with a COMEDY NIGHT and you’ve got a FUN DAY.
Arsenic and Old Lace - Opens Friday,
September 26
A
comedy hit for at least three generations, and it’s easy to see why: Join us
as we meet the charming and innocent old ladies who populate their cellar with
the remains of socially and religiously "acceptable" roomers; the antics of
their brother who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt; and the activities of the
other brother— and all the folks who are caught in between!
Fiddler on the Roof - Opens Friday, November
7
In
the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to
instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit
Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the
growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and
ethnic detail, Fiddler On The Roof has touched audiences
around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. It's universal
theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality
and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and
sadness. A favorite of Lakeland’s audiences! Come see it and fall in
love all over again!
